Greater choice for JWRC crews

Aspiring Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) drivers will have the freedom to run their own cars in this year’s WRC feeder series, the FIA has announced.

Aspiring Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) drivers will have the freedom to run their own cars in this year’s WRC feeder series, the FIA has announced.
In recent years, all the cars used in the JWRC were prepared and run on events by one team. M-Sport was responsible for fielding the Ford Fiesta R2s that were used in the series last year when Sweden’s Pontus Tidemand scooped the JWRC title.
But the FIA has decided to give drivers greater freedom in 2014 and has ruled that they can run their cars themselves if they wish. All crews taking part in this year’s series will drive Citroen DS3 R3 cars.
Citroen Racing is offering all-inclusive ‘arrive and drive’ packages to those competitors that don’t want to run their own cars. The French manufacturer’s competition department has hand picked a number of professional teams that will be responsible for running JWRC competitors’ cars.
Marek Nawarecki, Customer Racing Manager at Citroen Racing said: “In order to ensure there is genuine sporting fairness between the competitors, we selected teams that were capable of meeting the quality requirements of Citroen Racing.
“Regardless of the team they opt for, the drivers are guaranteed to be able to compete on equal terms,” he added.
Citroen have not yet named those teams, but hope to do so later this week.
