KUBICA TIPPED FOR ASPHALT WINS

M-Sport World Rally Team boss, Malcolm Wilson, has tipped Robert Kubica to be fighting for victory in the second half of the season after the Pole’s standout performance on the first morning of Rallye Monte-Carlo.

M-Sport World Rally Team boss, Malcolm Wilson, has tipped Robert Kubica to be fighting for victory in the second half of the season after the Pole’s standout performance on the first morning of Rallye Monte-Carlo.
Kubica was making his competitive debut in an M-Sport-prepared Ford Fiesta RS WRC in Monte Carlo and surprised many by taking the lead of the rally on the first two stages.
Wilson was impressed with what he saw. “Robert demoralised everyone when they were all on the same tyres this morning and the thing that impressed me was how he controlled everything on the third stage when he could see the seconds disappearing. To hang on and be patient like that is a very good skill.
“I think that when we get to the asphalt rallies in the second half of the season and Robert has got more experience, he’ll definitely be challenging for wins. I have no doubt about that.”
M-Sport enjoyed a largely successful first day on Rallye Monte-Carlo. Bryan Bouffier topped the leaderboard in his private Fiesta, while Elyfn Evans was sixth. Mikko Hirvonen disappointed in eighth place.
“Bryan’s approach has been very measured and sensible approach,” Wilson added. “He has always driven well in tricky conditions like this. It’s been a good day for him.”
